SM Entertainment's first bad knee-jerk reaction decision - the cancellation of SMTown Live '09.

Updated 2009.12.12!

August 7, 2009 - SM postpones SMTown 09 "indefinitely"

Sources: Who Said What?
  • JJY says: n/a
  • SM says: We can't hold a normal concert with JJY tied up in the injunction mess
Reliability of Source(s)
  • Yup. It was canceled. Excuse me, "postponed indefinitely"

September 3, 2009
- DNBN threatens to file suit against SM Entertainment

Sources: Who Said What?
  • JJY says: n/a
  • SM says: n/a
  • DNBN says: On behalf of 1222 ticketholders, we will file a damage compensation request with the Korea Consumer Agency if you don't give us our money back by September 9. Now that the date has passed, we don't know if anything happened on September 9 - do you?
Reliability of Source(s)
  • Well, yes, this happened.
  • Generally event tickets are sold with the understanding (in writing) that the event may be canceled at any time for any reason. In Korea, ticketholders are entitled to full ticket price + 10% extra as compensation, which is generous. There is NO compensation for things like plane tickets and hotel bookings and certainly not hurt feelings. So I really don't get, legally, where DNBN's complaint comes from. All I can think of is that because the event is "postponed" and not actually canceled, SM has refused to give refunds. However, GMarket considered the event canceled and said they'd issue refunds. So yeah. If anyone has info on whether any refunds were actually given, hollah. (more info below?)

November 24, 2009 - Korea Consumer Agency agrees to allow complaints from SMTown 09 ticketholders

Sources: Who Said What?
  • JJY says: n/a
  • SM says: n/a
  • Ticketholders say: We want financial compensation for fiscal and emotional damages; we don't want to be tyrannically controlled
  • Korea Consumer Agency says: This will determine if concert planners have to issue refunds for events which are not canceled, merely postponed to an undetermined date (maybe I answered the question I raised above?)
Reliability of Source(s)
  • Oh My News is reliable.
  • Tyranny? Really?

December 10, 2009 - Korea Consumer Agency accepts claims fro 872 SMTown Live 09 ticketholders

Sources: Who Said What?
  • JJY says: n/a
  • SM says: n/a
Reliability of Source(s)
  • Coulnd't find story on Naver News, and the one we listed does not quite match up to the translation but it's the only one we found, so.... maybe the translators edited some things out.
  • This is probably reliable.
